Researchers from the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research and Cancer Care Ontario have successfully identified a specific genetic variation on chromosome 8 that is associated with colorectal cancer. This is the first genetic predictor that has been identified for the most common forms of colorectal cancer to date and may play a significant role in how people are screened for colorectal cancer. The study was published on Sunday, July 8th in Nature Genetics.

ARCTIC researchers publish genetic sites determining colon cancer risk in Nature Genetics. The prestigious genetics journal, Nature Genetics, has published work licensed exclusively to ArcticDx describing an important component of genetic susceptibility to colon cancer. Brent Zanke MD PhD, Chief Medical Officer of ArcticDx and lead authors describes this publication as a "land mark advance in the understanding of the genetics of colon cancer which will quickly translate into clinical benefit for patients". Nature Genetics Published online: 8 July 2007 | doi:10.1038/ng2089.
